In a recently premiered installation at the Newark Museum of Art, Molly Hatch is taking plates off of the table and onto the gallery wall. Blending craft, design and fine arts in her ceramic objects and installations, Hatch's unique take on a traditional and often under-sung art form is making waves. In her installations, Hatch hand paints a multitude of porcelain plates, which together recreate a pattern or motif often found on a single ceramic object.

An auction of the estate of Harriet Gould is bringing new works by big names to the public. According to the auction house, John McInnis Auctioneers, Gould's son, Jon Gould, was the former Vice President of Paramount pictures, and a close friend of Andy Warhol's. Upon Jon Gould's death in 1986, his belongings, including works by Warhol, Keith Haring, and Jean-Michel Basquiat, were stored in his mother Harriet's attic in Amesbury, Massachusets. Now that her estate is being sold, these newly rediscovered treasures are up at auction.
At the upcoming Phillips Design Evening Sale, on December 12, 31 beautiful objects are up for auction. These include a George Nakashima coffee table and several pieces designed by Alberto Giacometti. This weekend marks the premier of a new large art fair in Düsseldorf, Germany. Open November 16th - 19th and in its first year, Art Düsseldorf seeks to establish itself as “a new and innovative platform for collectors, gallerists and curators.” Over 75 galleries will have spaces in a recently converted former factory complex called Areal Böhler. Sixty percent of the galleries present are German, and the fair designated specific spaces for young galleries.
Starting this weekend, Prospect, New Orleans' contemporary art triennial will infuse the city with art from around the world. Taking place at museums, galleries, parks, and more non-traditional venues, like a ferry landing, Prospect brings significant contemporary works to unexpected places. This years exhibition coincides with the Tricentennial of the city of New Orleans. Hence its theme, The Lotus in Spite of the Swamp, seeks to celebrate the exquisite flower that is New Orleans, blossoming in the mud of the bayou.
Paris Photo opens this weekend for the 21st year. Running November 9th through the 12th at the Grand Palais, Paris Photo is the premier international art fair devoted to photography. Over 150 galleries and publishers will be exhibiting, with accompanying lectures, conversations, and book signings. This year, the fair debuts a new exhibition of film and video art.
