London – Christie’s will offer "Portrait of Clara Serena, the Artist's Daughter" by Peter Paul Rubens in the London Old Masters Evening Sale on 5 July, during Classic Week (estimate: £3-5 million). Never intended for public display, this seminal work offers a rare glimpse into the private life of the greatest artist of the Northern Baroque. The portrait is on public view in New York until 5 May, later going on view in Hong Kong from 24 to 28 May, before being exhibited in London in the lead up to the sale.

BALTIMORE, MD —The Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA) presents "Meleko Mokgosi: Acts of Resistance," an exhibition that includes a suite of new paintings by the artist that examines the idea of resistance, defined by Mokgosi as any instance in which a subject refuses to give in to the oppression of her or his spirit. On view May 2 through August 12, 2018, these large-scale figurative paintings rethink the tradition of historical European compositions by depicting daily life in southern African nation-states and post-colonial ideals of democracy.
Now at the Minneapolis Institute of Art, Essma Imady’s installation, Thicker than Water, is a heart-rending contemplation of the effects of Syria’s civil war and the realities of life as a refugee, including leaving friends and family behind and the strangeness of navigating a new home. Syrian-born Imady moved to the US to get her MFA just before war broke out. Her work explores the tensions and anxieties of refugees and immigrant parents.

The first site-specific outdoor public sculpture ever to be commissioned for the United States from Anselm Kiefer (b. 1945) will be unveiled this spring at the top of Rockefeller Center’s® Channel Gardens, facing Fifth Avenue.
