Picasso’s Idealized Portrait of His Final Muse

Jacqueline Roque was working at the Madoura Pottery Plant in Vallouris, France when she first met an aging Pablo Picasso. He became enamored with her, sending her a rose each day until she agreed to accompany him on a date. In this episode of Expert Voices, August Uribe, Sotheby's Head of Impressionist & Modern Art, explores the relationship that would define the later years of Pablo Picasso’s life through his masterpiece Femme Au Chien, 1962. This monumental canvas combines references to Picasso’s earlier cubism with more modern sculptural elements in an exciting display of exuberant colors. Hidden from public view for decades, Femme Au Chien will be offered as a highlight of Sotheby’s Impressionist & Modern Art Evening Sale. (14 May | New York)
