This spring The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (MOCA), will conduct a thorough conservation of Jackson Pollock’s abstract expressionist painting Number 1, 1949 (1949), a treasure of MOCA’s collection since it was donated to the museum in 1989 by Rita Schreiber in loving memory of her husband, Taft Schreiber.
The Museum of Modern Art’s David Rockefeller Award will be presented to Oprah Winfrey at a luncheon in New York on March 6, 2018. The Award is presented annually by MoMA to an individual from the business community who exemplifies enlightened generosity and effective advocacy of cultural and civic endeavors. The event honorary co-chairs are Leon D. Black, Co-Chairman, Marie-Josée Kravis, President, and Jerry I. Speyer, Chairman of the Museum’s Board of Trustees; Les Moonves and Paula Crown are event co-chairs.
The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts will showcase a century of art patronage—including some of the most important and recognized pieces in its collections—in a special exhibition at the Winter Antiques Show, the leading art and antiques fair in the United States.
New York – A pair of table lamps by Alberto Giacometti were the top lot of the Bonhams Modern Decorative Art + Design auction on December 14. The sale realized $1,542,625 and was marked by incredible prices achieved for classic early 20th century designers and robust international activity for post-war design material.
Tate Modern opened two major works in the Tanks today. Emeka Ogboh’s immersive, multichannel sound installation, The Way Earthly Things Are Going 2017, fills the subterranean East Tank in the Blavatnik Building. This installation is on display for the first time in the UK following its debut at documenta 14 in Athens. In the South Tank, The Lightning Testimonies2007, a powerful eight-channel, digital video installation by Indian artist Amar Kanwar is being exhibited. Both works will be on display until 4 February 2018.

Opening December 13, Provocations: Anselm Kiefer at The Met Breuer will feature 34 works on paper and one painting by the German artist, all drawn from The Met collection. The exhibition will span the artist's nearly 50-year career and will be on view at The Met Breuer through April 8, 2018.
Minneapolis Institute of Art Receives Two Major Grants in Support of Empathy and Diversity Initiatives Minneapolis, December 13, 2017— The Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia) announced today that it has received two major grants: a $750,000 grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation in support of the museum’s Center for Empathy and the Visual Arts; and a $520,000 grant from the Ford Foundation and the Walton Family Foundation supporting Mia’s ongoing Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA) initiative.
