The landmark exhibition The World between Empires: Art and Identity in the Ancient Middle East, which opens March 18, 2019, at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, focuses on the remarkable cultural, religious, and commercial exchange that took place in cities including Petra, Baalbek, Palmyra, and Hatra between 100 B.C. and A.D. 250.
The much-anticipated auction of the art collection of George Michael, British singer and songwriter, and icon of the imaginative spirit of the 1980s and 1990s, has realized £9,264,000 / $12,302,590 / €10,848,145. Proceeds from the sale will be used to continue George Michael’s philanthropic work.
Internationally acclaimed artist Tiffany Chung (b. 1969, Đà Nẵng, Vietnam) is known for her multimedia work that explores migration, conflict and shifting geographies in the wake of political and natural upheavals. Chung’s new exhibition at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, “Tiffany Chung: Vietnam, Past Is Prologue,” probes the legacies of the Vietnam War and its aftermath through maps, videos and paintings that highlight the voices and stories of former Vietnamese refugees.

Los Angeles- Bonhams Los Angeles presents 100 Lapidary Treasures from The Estate of Gerard L. Cafesjian, a personal collection that reflects Mr. Cafesjian’s love of gemology, color and form. Highlighting the collection is magnificent illuminated/automated musical gemstone and gold carousel by Andreas von Zadora-Gerlof, circa 1991 (estimate on request). This unique and extraordinary carousel was commissioned directly by Mr. Cafesjian from the artist, and required 960 hours of stone sculpting and cutting, 3250 hours of gold-smithing and 210 hours of stone setting to complete.

Paul Getty Museum announced today the acquisition of 105 glass plate holograms by 20 artists related to the C-Project, a collaboration developed in the early 1990s between a select group of internationally renowned contemporary artists and holographers who experimented with the hologram process.
