Suzanne Bocanegra: Poorly Watched Girls

Museum

The Fabric Workshop and Museum is pleased to present, Poorly Watched Girls, a solo exhibition by performance and installation artist Suzanne Bocanegra.

The exhibition draws on such disparate sources of inspiration as an opera set in a convent during the French Revolution; an 18th-century ballet based on a painting of a weeping woman; and Judy Garland's wardrobe test for the cult film, Valley of the Dolls. Speaking to The New York Times about her project with FWM, the artist notes, “Each of these original sources deals with a kind of voyeuristic observation of women in trouble — romantic trouble, spiritual trouble, emotional trouble.”
