Kurimanzutto presents the project Organ Within by Tarek Atoui in his project space in New York, which will function as an open sound laboratory and a camera for instruments. Atoui will present a new piece called Organ Within, a hybrid sculptural object that involves various technologies to re-imagine the spatialization, perception and performativity of a traditional organ. The piece is the result of continuous collaboration with Léo Maurel and Vincent Martial, two instrument builders who investigate church organs and modular synthesizers, as well as the sound experience that people with hearing disabilities can perceive.
Organ Within is an itinerant project organized at different times. It will begin in kurimanzutto to culminate in the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York; followed by the project will travel to the Yorkshire Sculpture International festival (from June 22 to September 20, 2019), and will subsequently be shown at the Sharjah Art Foundation, in the United Arab Emirates, in March 2020.
