Scott Glaser was born in Newark, NJ in 1953. His “professional” art career started in the sixth grade when he was “commissioned” to create a mural for the year-end Maple Avenue School show.
Drawing was a constant interest from elementary school on. Early inspiration came from Marvel comics and imagination. This interest quickly became a passion, which led Scott to the School of Visual Arts in the early 70s where he double majored in advertising and painting.
Upon graduating in 1973, Glaser began a 30-year career in advertising as art director, copywriter, creative director and production manager.
The fine art career move didn’t happen until 2003. Why, after spending three decades hiring world-class artists to execute Scott’s concepts visually, did he have to overcome the angst of not being as good an artist as the artists he had hired over the years?
That happened when a friend commissioned him to create a large piece for the lobby of a luxury condo complex. During the seven months that it took to complete the painting, fear gave way to confidence and that piece opened the doors to a career that has flourished ever since.
The one commonality in his execution, regardless of style or medium, is his use of the centuries-old grid system.
Work created for corporate clients including: Hyatt, China Merchants Bank, the city of Stamford, Kate Spade, Perkins Eastman Architectural firm, Fisher Development, the law firm of Goldman, Gruder, and Wood, and for private collectors in New York City, Boston, Palm Beach, and Paradise Valley
A few of the highlights of his art career include: creating the largest outdoor mural for the city of Stamford, being chosen as one of the 100 artists recruited for the Sing for Hope Pop-up Piano exhibition (the largest outdoor exhibition ever produced in the city of New York), being the only artist interviewed on NBC, and creating the first two murals outside of mainland China for China Merchants Bank located on Madison Avenue in New York.
