Matthew Marcot, a self-taught artist specializing in Abstract and Neo-Expressionist styles, captures the visceral essence of ancient ritual and cosmic forces in his work. His latest exhibition, Ancient Awakening, draws on primal, almost hieroglyphic calligraphy, biomorphic symbols, and stark geometric portraiture to explore the deep-seated energies shaping human civilization—both benign and menacing. Inspired by artforms rooted in superstition and spirituality, including African sculpture, religious manuscripts, and cave drawings, Marcot translates these timeless symbols into contemporary forms.
