Heritage Auctions Adds 20th Century and Contemporary Design Expert Brent Lewis

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif.— Heritage Auctions, the largest auction house founded in the United States, has hired Brent Lewis, an art and design specialist based in Los Angeles, as Director of Design. He will begin immediately in Heritage's Beverly Hills office.

"Brent has worked in the art and design community the majority of his professional career. His passion for mid-century and post-war design as well as his auction house experience will be a huge asset for Heritage," said Ed Beardsley, Vice President of Heritage Auctions. "While Brent will be based in Beverly Hills, he is happy to view collections around the world and will regularly visit our offices in New York, Chicago, Dallas, San Francisco and Palm Beach."

Lewis has spent over 15 years in the auction business, working with both East and West Coast firms as a specialist and auctioneer. In this role at Heritage, he will oversee the department of 20th Century and Contemporary Design, focusing on building Heritage's market in mid-century and postwar design. Heritage is currently taking consignments for the next design auction which will be held in October.

Prior to joining Heritage, Lewis was the director of Wright auction house's New York gallery, and was formerly a Vice President and Auctioneer at Christie's, New York. Previously he was the Gallery Director of Moss in New York and held roles at Freeman's auction house in Philadelphia and Bonham's in Los Angeles.

"The subject of design is rich and diverse. Heritage has a unique position to use its expertise in the fine art, decorative art and luxury markets to present compelling sales of design furniture and objects in their salerooms in Los Angeles, New York and of course, Dallas," Lewis said.

Lewis has appeared on PBS' Antiques Roadshow and is a contributing editor of Cultured Magazine. He has published widely on the subjects of art and design with recent subjects including Frank Gehry, Robert Wilson, Gaetano Pesce, Tom Sachs, Carlos Cruz-Diez and Los Carpinteros.
