About the Item: "Sunshine" is an original oil painting on canvas created by Cathryn Ruvalcaba. This painting features a brown and white spotted cow. It is backlit by the rising morning sun. Ruvalcaba catches the fluffiness of the ears shining in the sun perfectly. Her expert shading maintains the definition of the white spots on the cow as it is being backlit. While Ruvalcaba's style nears photo realism, there is an added level of playfulness that sets her work apart. The bright, almost neon brush strokes that accent the scene bring out the life that exists within. She personifies the animals she creates, making her subjects seem almost fantastical. The bright, almost neon brush strokes that accent the scene bring out the life that exists within what a Wisconsin native would otherwise see as mundane. She personifies the animals she creates, making her subjects seem almost fantastical. Yet the familiarity of the species she paints roots these animals in reality. For example, she has endowed the sheep in this painting with the name "Earl". The eye contact that has been created for the subject almost convinces the viewer that Earl is himself human.
