About the Artist
Max Pechstein
Max Pechstein (1881-1955) was a German Expressionist painter and printmaker, born in Zwickau. As a founding member of the Die Brücke group in Dresden, Pechstein played a vital role in the development of German Expressionism. His works, such as "Street, Berlin" (1911), exhibit vibrant colors, bold brushstrokes, and a focus on emotional intensity. Pechstein's art often portrayed urban scenes, landscapes, and figures, reflecting the tumultuous social and political climate of the early 20th century. Throughout his career, he explored various mediums, including woodcuts and lithographs. Despite facing condemnation during the Nazi regime, Pechstein continued to produce expressive and socially engaged art. His contributions to the Expressionist movement endure, marking him as a significant figure in the avant-garde art of his time.
