About the Item: Ode to Mineko Iwasaki (1970s Japanese Geisha)' is an original drawing by the American artist Jorge Ruiz-Martinez. The artist works in an art deco style, imagining graceful figures in historic costume through that stylized lens. Art Deco architecture and graphic design took hold in the United States and Europe during the first part of the 20th century and came to be the iconic style of the metropolis and modernity. Ruiz-Martinez's drawings, though more stylized and simplified, recall the fashion images of Art Deco master Erté who likewise presented single elegant figures in resplendent costume. This example is of course an ode to the Japanese Geisha Mineko Iwasaki. Iwasaki was the most famous geisha in Japan until her sudden retirement at the age of 29. She was known for her performances, her celebrity and royalty during her geisha life. Signed and dated by the artist in the lower right. Artwork Size: 24" x 18" Frame Size: 27" x 21"
