About the Artist
Henri de Fantin-Latour
French Realist Painter Fantin-Latour, a painter and lithographer, was well known for his flower paintings, which were well received in England. He counted many respected painters among his contemporaries, such as Manet, Monet and Renoir, although his traditional approach showed a marked contrast to their impressionist style. He featured these contemporaries in his portrait paintings; it is to his credit that we know what many of these famous painters looked like. He was married to another important flower painter, Victoria Dubourg.
