About the Item

Artist’s Statement: “I have been an abstract painter for over 30 years, and I can't exactly say what caused me to one night go to the studio and paint flowers, of all things. But of course, the 'template' of flowers in a vase is really just a basis, like any other, for color and form, and moving paint around. And I use unlikely color combinations as in my non-representational work, to create dissonance. These flowers don't exist in nature - they came out of my head. So I can do pretty much anything I want to - I don't feel any more restricted than I do when I'm making abstract paintings. I didn't expect to continue painting these, but I enjoy the challenges in doing them and all the others sold awhile back, so here is a new one." 26 x 19.5 in.

Framed in a gold-toned wood floater frame, ready for hanging.

(On recent series by the artist): “These paintings are a refreshing departure from the current abstract art world’s seemingly endless parade of fields of color with scribbles providing form, a style that is easily mimicked and has become a sort of “safe,” accessible go-to. There are confident decisions in these paintings appearing as commitments of strongly delineated forms and unexpected collisions of color that give the work a visceral, confident and playful soul, increasingly missing from contemporary expressionist abstraction. They are the paintings of a real painter rather than a decorative artist.”
