About the Artist
Pierre-Auguste Renoir
Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841-1919) was a French Impressionist painter, born in Limoges. A leading figure in the Impressionist movement, Renoir's art celebrated the joys of life, often portraying scenes of leisure and beauty. His timeless works, including "Luncheon of the Boating Party" (1881) and "Dance at Le Moulin de la Galette" (1876), showcase his mastery in capturing the effects of light and the vitality of human subjects. Renoir's career spanned various genres, from portraiture to landscapes, and his later works leaned towards a more classical style. Despite battling rheumatoid arthritis in his later years, Renoir continued to paint with a brush tied to his hand. His legacy endures as a key contributor to the Impressionist movement, embodying the spirit of artistic innovation in 19th-century France.
