Georges Dola
Painter of portraits, landscapes, poster artist and lithographer Specialized in opera posters Georges Dola was the pseudonyme of Vernier Edmond He exhibited in Paris as the Salon des Artistes Francais, where he received an honorable mention in 1909. He also exhibited in Berlin, Vienna and Paris and at the Cercle International des Arts, where he was a professor. He gained a reputation for making portraits of artists and posters for theaters and for movie cinemas, which was a new and developing art form at that time. He used collage and his works display a sobriety in their tonalities and the way it indicates volume. Georges Dola (Edmond Vernier) 1872-1950 Dola was born in Eastern France in a town called Dole, from which he took his pseudonym. Little is known about his early years, but it is certain that he had his own studio in Paris where he produced many posters, mainly theatrical. He exhibited in Paris as the Salon des Artistes Francais, where he received an honorable mention in 1909. He also exhibited in Berlin, Vienna and Paris and at the Cercle International des Arts, where he was a professor. He gained a reputation for making portraits of artists and posters for theaters and for movie cinemas, which was a new and developing art form at that time.
