About the Artist

Michael Knigin
Michael Knigin, born in Brooklyn, NY in 1942, was a prominent figure in the art world, known for his expertise in lithography and screen-printing. Educated at Tyler School of Art, Temple University, and trained at the Tamarind Lithography Workshop, Knigin started his career teaching at the Pratt Graphic Center in Manhattan. In 1966, he founded Chiron Press, the first U.S. facility combining lithography and screen-printing, collaborating with notable artists like Andy Warhol. He co-authored two books on lithography and established the first professional lithography workshop in Israel. Knigin, also a Pratt Institute professor, was recognized for his artistic contributions, including interpreting NASA’s space shuttle missions through his art. He won several awards and was featured in major publications. His work, showcased in over 17 solo and 120 group shows, is part of over 60 museum and corporate collections. Renowned for his commissions and contributions in art, education, and cultural exchange, Knigin passed away on January 27, 2011, after battling lung cancer.
