About the Item
This is a three-dimensional paper construction mounted onto a double-page photolithograph; when the folded sheet is opened the construction pops up. Created by Andy Warhol and published in 1967 by Black Star for Andy Warhol's Index Book, an absurd and revolutionary volume designed as "a children's book for hipsters". Size: 10 3/4 x 16 x 4 inches (275 x 400 x 105 mm). A classic work of Pop Art from Warhol's Factory period, at the height of the New York psychedelic scene. Not signed.
About the Artist
Andy Warhol
Andy Warhol was an iconic American artist and leading figure in the pop art movement of the 1960s. Known for his vibrant silkscreen prints of celebrities like Marilyn Monroe and Campbell's soup cans, Warhol blurred the boundaries between high and low culture. His work explored themes of consumerism, fame, and the superficiality of contemporary society. Beyond his art, Warhol was a central figure in New York City's avant-garde scene, influencing generations of artists with his innovative approach to art and celebrity.
