About the Artist
George Elbert Burr
George Elbert Burr (1859–1939) was an American printmaker and etcher known for his detailed depictions of landscapes and wildlife. Born in Monroe Falls, Ohio, Burr began his artistic career as a painter and illustrator, later gaining acclaim for his etchings. Trained in the traditional European style, he captured the American West's vastness with meticulous precision. Burr's mastery of the etching medium, as seen in works like "The Edge of the Desert" (1924), earned him recognition as a leading American printmaker. His artistic pursuits extended to travel, documenting scenes from Mexico, the Grand Canyon, and Europe. Burr's dedication to the etching craft and his ability to convey the beauty of nature contributed significantly to the American etching revival during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
